Backup and recovery
Data backup and recovery are an integral part of computer system security. In the event of a failure, an attack by intruders or other unforeseen circumstances, backup copies will help preserve valuable information and return the system to working condition.
What is backup?
Backup is the process of creating duplicate files and folders on a separate storage device (hard disk, server data array, cloud platform). Each organization should have a strategy for regularly creating a backup copy of all its important data: database of clients/users of the site; financial data; contracts; program codes of applications.
A plan for successfully completing backup tasks:
1. Determine what data needs protection.
2. Selection of the appropriate method - locally or remotely.
3. Development of a schedule of automatic operations
4. Checking the effectiveness of the mechanism
How to choose the right storage method?
There are several different ways to store a backup copy of data:
1. Local storage: Backup copies are created on external hard drives, network drives or tape drives and are stored physically near computers.
2. Remote (online) storage: Data is sent via the Internet to a remote server for safe storage. It can be a cloud platform or a dedicated server.
3. Hybrid solution: Combining two previous methods
When to make a backup?
The regularity of performing operations to create artifacts depends on the amount of information changes per certain unit of time.
– Daily
– Weekly
– Monthly
An important point is to check the performance of the system after each copying process
